COREY CLAWSON’S WORK TO BE PUBLISHED IN AISTHESIS

Recent grad and current Department of English administrative assistant Corey Clawson will have several pieces of his writing published in the Aisthesis honors journal. Poems “From Michelangelo's David,” “Wyoming Calling on Line One,” “Thirteen Folds,” and “The Artistry of Melinda Archer,” as well as an essay on Seamus Heaney, “Learning the Limits of ‘Boundless Inbetweenness,' ” will appear in the Fall 2009 issue. Aisthesis is published by the Honors Program at the University of Minnesota Duluth.

2010 EMILY DICKINSON CONFERENCE IN OXFORD

USU professor of English Paual Crumbley is the central organizer for the international Emily Dickinson conference to be held August 6-8, 2010, at Oxford University. The official title for the conference is "'Were I Britain born': Dickinson's Transatlantic Connections." Crumbley is President of the Emily Dickinson International Society, the organization that is putting on the conference.

STEVE SIPORIN AWARDED LADY DAVIS FELLOWSHIP AT HEBREW UNIVERSITY
Department of English Professor Steve Siporin will soon be leaving for Hebrew University as a visiting Lady Davis Fellow. There Siporin will teach American Folklore and continue his research on Italian Jews, specifically Augusto Segre, whose memoir Siporin translated. The translation was published in 2008 by University of Nebraska Press. More

USU A HUGE PRESENCE IN FOLKLORE SOCIETY OF UTAH’S ANNUAL CONFERENCE
On Saturday, November 14th, the Folklore Society of Utah held its annual conference on the Utah Valley University campus. This year Utah State University had six current and former students together with a faculty member presenting their work. They included Will Pooley, Jeannine Heuneman, Liza Olsen, Bernadene Ryan, Randy Williams, Lisa Duskin-Goedea, and Lisa Gabbert. More

KING’S ENGLISH BOOKSHOP HOSTS DAVID KRANES
On Thursday, November 19th, The King's English is pleased to present esteemed author David Kranes at Rowland Hall Lower School, 720 S. Guardsman Way, at 7:00 P.M., in Salt Lake City. Kranes will read from his book, The National Tree, a story of the journey of a perfect 75-foot Sitka spruce as it makes it way from its northern California birthplace to its holiday home in Washington, D.C ., as well as the journey of discovery for the father and son who deliver it.

THE SOCIETY FOR TECHNICAL COMMUNICATION'S CHAPTER AT USU
Utah State University's chapter of the Society for Technical Communication (STC) belongs to the largest organization of its kind, boasting more than 25,000 members. USU's chapter helps any student interested in any type of technical communication enhance their skills, go to numerous workshops, gain access to grant and scholarship information, interact with each other, and gain employment with access to STC's job databases.

GRADUATE STUDENT SENATE INVITES RESEARCH GRANT APPLICATIONS

The Graduate Student Senate (GSS) is currently accepting applications for its Research and Projects Grants. These grants, for amounts not exceeding $1,000, are intended for graduate students actively pursuing either their Masters' or Doctoral degrees. In order to be eligible for a Research Grant, students must be able to reasonably demonstrate they need financial assistance in completing essential research or purchasing necessary materials. Please note that these scholarships are intended to go to offset the costs of students' research/graduate work that their major professor, department, and college could not financially support.

DEAN’S ALUMNI SPEAKER SCHEDULED

At 11:30 pm on Friday, November 13, in the Eccles Conference Center room 303-305, the HASS Distinguished Alumni Speaker Series will present Marshall Crawford, a Managing Director with J. P. Morgan. A 1980 graduate of Utah State, he is currently oversees transportation infrastructure finance for the firm. He has more the 25 years of experience in investment banking and has been responsible for completing more than $50 billion of financing for projects across the continent.
